The Great Debate
FEAR IS STRONGER THAN OPTIMISM IN CREATING RAPID SOCIAL CHANGE
Fear, the technique that divides us. At a time more critical than ever before, we know that we need rapid social change to restore our environment and ensure a future that is clean, healthy, happy, fair and sustainable for all. The idea of using fear to motivate people to change their ways is fiercely contested. The truth is scary, but is it scary enough? Does optimism work?
Our panel will explore examples of social change occurring, and make a case for or against the notion that it is fear to which we respond most rapidly. Will we hear accusations of ‘scare-mongering’ and ‘bright-siding’? What proof is there? Will you change your mind?
